Green Juice and the Secret Behind Doing it Right.

I have been working with Monica Prieto, certified Health Coach in the San Diego area, for the last three years. After weaning my first son I started gaining weight exponentially and nothing I was doing was working to stop it.

I exercised and lowered my carb and sugar intake like I had done in the past when I wanted to lose a few pounds, but the weight wasn’t coming off. Monica and I studied Fashion Marketing together a few years back and I had seen online that she had become Health Coach, so I gave her a ring. She has completely changed my life for the better. She is so well informed and well studied that every time I see her she teaches me the latest and greatest discoveries in nutrition.

One of the best habits she got me into since the beginning was making my own green juice (NOT smoothie). Doing this has improved my energy levels, my digestion, keeps me healthy all year long, and keeps my mind sharp. But there are rules in juicing right, very important ones or it is all for nothing.

She insists on two main things:

  1. Make it yourself fresh every morning so the nutrients are intact and drink it right away. (freshly cold-pressed juice purchased a day or two before it’s ok too, if you are willing to pay the price which ranges around $10.00)
  2. Drink it first thing in the morning and wait 25 minutes before you consume any solid foods.

The second “rule” is because she wants you to digest the green juice so it reaches your body cells. If you eat something right after drinking it, the green juice will stay in your stomach for hours digesting with the solid food and by the time the nutrients are absorbed most of them will be gone and you will mostly get the sugar from the vegetables instead of all their amazing properties.

Here are some recipes she has given me over the years for green juice:

This Detox juice she recommends to drink it after a weekend of eating out of the house or after a trip, or just because you need a cleanse:

This one is targeted for your skin. The properties of the carrot are greatly beneficial to your skin.
