Every year I find myself struggling on what to get for Adam on Father’s Day. I look at Etsy for something special and unique but nothing ever seems like something Adam would like. So I asked him this year and he said: “What we really want is a day to rest, but not many dads are brave enough to come out and say it”. The paradigm that they have to spend Father’s Day around our lovely family is a tradition that doesn’t really benefit the father.
Don’t get me wrong, he adores his boys, but I get it. We all need some time to ourselves. So no need to spend money other than in a nice card that expresses how much we value them, and then just give your baby’s daddy a Day’s Pass. If you still want to get him something, because it might be expected, here is the best one I have come up with.
A couple of Father’s Days back I planned a surprise weekend getaway with Adam and Alexander (before Nicholas was born). I didn’t tell him where we were going, I just hinted him on what to pack and that it was driving distance.
The surprise was a couple of days at Lake Arrowhead. It was such a great time that years later he is still talking about it. Adam has always loved hiking and spending time around water and Lake Arrowhead was the perfect mix of both. It was a mellow family weekend we spent around nature.

We stayed at the Lake Arrowhead Hotel and Spa. The hotel is fine, nothing splendid, but nice. The great thing about is its location. The hotel is on the lake right next to the main town.

Yo can swim in the Lake or swim at the hotel’s pool and hot tub.

You can hike around the lake. There is a very nice trail that is very walkable with kids. You can see all the beautiful homes that some lucky ones own around the lake.

Lake Arrowhead Village is a cute little town with a lot of restaurants and shops. It is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and its a great way to spend the evenings.
