Down Pipe

Adam and I moved to our new condo at the end of last month! It it has been very exciting but also a long and exhausting process. The house was supposed to be ready PR5upon our arrival but it is going to be finally done today! Imagine a house filled with dangerous tools and a curious 10 month old desperate to touch everything—we are drained! My parents were nice enough to fly to San Diego and help us with Alexander, otherwise I don’t know how we would’ve done it.

One of my favorite rooms in our new house is the downstairs powder room. I followed the advice from my favorite interior design magazines: Elle Decor and House Beautiful (and of course Pinterest)– and I am very pleased with the results. The small powder room was a cold, and quite frankly, an unpleasant space. The white walls and cabinets against the cream tile floor combined with the old toilet were very uninviting. I had big plans for this small space—I wanted to make it warm and fun.

In most magazines the advice for a small powder room was to use extravagant wallpaper or dark paint colors. I wanted to go for a colorful wallpaper but my walls were textured and flattening the texture to apply wallpaper wasn’t in the budget. As I looked for other options I saw a deep gray color in Farrow & Ball’s website called Down Pipe. I figured that if I used that gray color with white wainscoting I could achieve the look I was going for.

That combination gave the room a slight French look, so I completed the look with a natural stone floor and French looking fixtures. I have to admit I was impressed with the products you can find at The Home Depot’s website. A lot of the finishes I used were from The Home Depot including the flooring of the powder room, the toilet and sink, the towel and toilet paper holder as well as the faucet and mirror!

A pedestal sink takes no space and it’s a beautiful fixture.
