Breastfeeding

When I was pregnant I took a breastfeeding class at the hospital where I was going to deliver my son, Alexander. After listening to the nurse talk about all of the amazing benefits for both mother and baby, I decided I wanted to breastfeed Alexander until he turned one. Today my baby turned 9 months old and I am still breastfeeding.

The first couple of days it hurts, it does. But it goes away. Count to 15 days and it feels as if you have been doing it forever. Hang in there! The numerous benefits are invaluable. Alexander just got his first mild, 24-hour cold two weeks ago.

My best advice: drink, drink, drink, and then keep drinking water. That has been my secret. It is not easy, sometimes you get sick of drinking water, but it has made the biggest difference for me. I have a 16oz glass of water as soon as I wake up and the last one right before bed.

I believe the hardest part about breastfeeding is sacrificing a year exclusively for your baby and your family. Forget about life before your baby. Enjoy being a mom and giving him the gift of breastfeeding. There will be time again to see your friends and have fun, but your baby will only be a baby now.

Good luck in this amazing journey. I am here for you.

  1. Congratulations on your blog! It feels great to read about other moms who breastfeed. It can be overwhelming sometimes, but as you say, a baby will only be a baby for a little while. My son is 8 months and I also plan to bf until his 1st year; it’s a beautiful bond.
I’m looking forward to reading more of your posts :).
